There once was a dying rich man who had three best friends: a doctor, an engineer and a lawyer. This millionaire loves his money more than everything else and believed he had so much supply, he could take his money with him when he dies. So in his death-bed, he talked to his 3 friends. He said, “Guys, all these years, you are my trusted friends. I am giving each of you an envelope with Php 100,000 inside. BUT before I get buried, I want you to put all of those together with my grave.” Being “true” friends as they are, the 3 agreed to the dying man’s wish.
And so upon the ceremonial burying of the rich man, each of his friends put the their entrusted envelopes in the rich man’s grave.
After the ceremonies, the 3 friends- the doctor, engineer and lawyer, decided to go to a nearby pub and reminisce the good times they had with their rich man friend. Then one of them, the doctor, suddenly asked, “C’mon guys, seriously, did you put all the money inside the grave?” Then the engineer confessed, “Sorry, I didn’t. I only put Php 80,000 and kept the Php 20,000 for myself.” The doctor then felt ashamed and confessed too, “I couldn’t help it too! I only put there Php 50,000 and the rest for myself.” With a sudden rage in his chest, the lawyer blurted, “Shame on you both! I put everything in his grave…but only a post dated check.”:)
What are the things that we get attached to? By this example, we see the rich man who loved his money too much, he believed he could take it to his grave while the 3 friends, being “true” as they are, broke their promise blinded by the wealth they now possessed.
Life requires you have dreams. If you do not, then get a life please! hehe. But often times you get dumbfounded. Often you would tell yourself, “If only I have these, then I could get that”. Or “If I knew only that, I can finally go there.” And so you always long for a certain SUPPLY to get to your dreams.
Your dreams are often big, gigantic as the planets and unfathomable as the stars! Whew! SO what do you do when they are that big??
Option 1: Will you match your dream to match your resources?
Option 2: Match your resources to conform with your dream?
But your dreams are the best dreams of all dreams and getting it is everything even if it means you give EVERYTHING! And therefore you’d say, “Absolutely and entirely… Option 2!!”
But the right answer friends, would be…tandadadaaaannnn…
IT DEPENDS! (wenk!)
Before you go and scheme a plot to take over the world, let us discern first where your dreams are coming from.
You can do Option 1 if your dreams come out of PRIDE.
Maybe your dream is to have a Jaguar because it would be cool to ride on it and let your friends marvel at your new ride. Or get the latest smartphone, coz it has the 6g, GPS, hi-def holographic screen, 10-core processor and even a refrigerator! (Well something to those effect.)
Don’t beat yourself up if you want the best but can live for the enough. You can still be happy. Pride is the only thing that makes you want more that you do not need. Match your dream with what you have.
But do Option 2 if your dream comes from PURPOSE.
Let’s say your dream is to have a car, so you can drive your family comfortably to any destination. Or you want a smartphone because it can communicate you easily with your friends, business partners and family and its apps can help you perform you daily tasks efficiently.
Your dream must be motivated by a higher and pure purpose that is love. Your happiness comes not from superficial things but out of love. True happiness comes from that!
So go sit down. Think hard. Write down you dreams and discern for the longest time– is this motivated by PRIDE or by PURPOSE? Then choose which Option to apply.
Write down your dreams, then ask yourself the proverbial question– Why? When you’ve got the answer, ask yourself why again. And when you get the second answer, ask yourself WHY! Over and over again, and reflect. By this, you would be asking the million dollar question,
“Why am I doing this in the first place?” Does it come from PRIDE or does it come from PURPOSE.
And when you’ve made up your mind, trust now on one of 3 things God promises you.
He will provide you with an ABUNDANT and OVERFLOWING supply of resources that will lead and direct you to your dreams. God is the God of Abundance and He will supply ALL your needs for you to reach your dreams no matter how big! Because HE-IS-BIGGER!
For He has said,
“Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” (Mathew 7: 7-11)
He guarantees your supply, and He will never break His promise.
This is a 3 part series in which this is the first one. Look out for my second post that tells about God’s promise of SOLUTIONS (to your problems!) I know you got lots of them. Till next time!

The Feast is a weekly gathering of the Light of Jesus (LOJ) Family, aimed at celebrating and spreading God’s love through worship and inspirational talks. The LOJ Family is headed by lay preacher, Bo Sanchez. The Feast is held at the Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig City but, eventually, local Feasts were created in different areas of Metro Manila to allow more people to experience what can best be described as “one of the happiest places on earth.”
